How to Use the Console for an Error Report
What is the console?
The "browser console" is used by developers to identify and diagnose errors found in webpages. If you encounter an error while using Alinity, that does not result in a "Report this issue" popup showing in the top-right, the easiest way to provide us with the required information is to use the browser's console. Only do this when explicitly requested by the college.
When to use the console?
If a page appears frozen, or doesn't load, for example:
- This page got stuck loading (the cog just spins indefinitely, but never loads the page)
How to use the console?
You can access the console by pressing CTRL + SHIFT + J on your keyboard,
- Or, by opening the "Developer tools" from the menu
- The developer tools will appear on the currently open webpage, then click the "Console" tab
- Any errors will be shown here, and this is the information to send us.
- An easy way to capture this is to take a screenshot:
- You can use the "Print screen" button on your keyboard, then paste the image into an email
- Or, use the "snipping tool" (Windows)
- Or, use the "screenshot tool" on MacOS
